Vegetable, fruit and salad production

We offer a range of courses from a basic ‘improving your growing success’, to a more detailed ‘organic growing systems’. Course groups are kept small for one on one attention and put theory to practice with hands-on demonstrations followed by participation. Also included are the following:
  • Cultivations, tools and equipment, sowing and planting of major vegetable groups/varieties
  • Organic pest and disease control, protected growing, harvesting and storing
  • An organic home-made lunch, using food from our land as well as other delicious local produce

Working horse experience

heavy horsesCater for one person or for small groups, this workshop will be tailored to your requirements and wishes, to show and experience using the heavy horse in land management and horticulture. A chance to get behind the reins of these wonderful creatures; to learn how to use some of the equipment such as the chain harrow and a single furrow plough, and to see and experience modern heavy horse machinery. This workshop can be for one or two days.

Includes:
· Horse care
· Harness and harnessing, including English, American and Canadian breast harnesses
· Horse drawn machinery and its uses
· Work load - finding the right balance for you and the horses
· An organic lunch, using food from our land as well as other delicious local produce

Heavy horses and vegetable production

heavy horses A more detailed look at using the heavy horse for horticulture, to experience using modern heavy horse equipment as well as traditional implements. Growing crops on ridges, rows and beds. One or two days according to requirements.

Includes:

  • Horse care – food, feet and feeling
  • Harness and harnessing; specifically learning the benefits and usage of the Canadian harness
  • Machinery – cultivating, from ploughing through to seedbed; row marking and weeding
  • Harvesting – using a hitch cart and sledge
  • Workload, finding the right balance for you and the horses according to the season
  • An organic lunch, using food from our land as well as other delicious local produce

The heavy horse on the farm/ small holding

See and experience the many uses of the working horse on small farms and holdings, from grassland management to cultivating as well as learning the skills needed to work with heavy horses. One or two days according to requirements.

Includes:
· Horse care – getting to know the horse and how to look after them
· Harness – including English, American and Canadian systems
· Machinery for grassland management, crop production and for transportation
· Managing the workload throughout the year by understanding each task, according to the seasons, local conditions and horse fitness
· An organic lunch, using food from our land as well as other delicious local produce
